MacBook compatibility
SplashDuo requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later. The visual effect and Manual Angle mode work on MacBook models that can run macOS 14.
Automatic Follow Lid
Live lid-angle tracking requires the Apple lid-angle sensor interface used by SplashDuo. It is supported on:
- MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019).
- MacBook Pro (14-inch or 16-inch, 2021 or later).
- MacBook Air (13-inch, M2, 2022 or later).
- MacBook Air (15-inch, M2, 2023 or later).
Other MacBook models, including the M1 MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro, may not expose the required sensor interface. SplashDuo automatically falls back to Manual Angle mode when the sensor is unavailable.
Screen Recording permission
SplashDuo needs Screen Recording access to display your current desktop inside the live effect. On first launch, accept the macOS prompt. If needed, open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording and enable SplashDuo. macOS may quit and reopen the app once.
The permission still looks inactive
Make sure the enabled entry is SplashDuo from Applications, then quit and reopen SplashDuo. Remove older development copies if more than one entry appears.
Follow Lid is unavailable
Your Mac does not expose the lid-angle sensor interface SplashDuo needs. Turn Follow Lid off and use the Manual Angle slider; the rest of the visual effect remains available.
The overlay stops moving
Check the menu-bar icon to make sure the effect is active. Pressing Escape pauses SplashDuo; choose Resume effect from the menu bar to continue.
